Welcome to Kindness Animal Hospital

Kindness Animal Hospital has served Durango and the surrounding areas for over 15 years. We pride ourselves on offering a comprehensive spectrum of traditional and complementary medical methods. Founded and led by our dedicated veterinarian Dr. Claire Lodahl, our team has a simple mission: to provide high quality and compassionate care for all clients and patients.

We are proud to have clients that regularly bring their pets to see Dr. Lodahl from 4-5 hours away rather than visit a closer vet. Our team will always provide the same dedicated veterinary care to our patients, no matter how near or far.

Meet Dr. Claire Lodahl

Dr. Claire Lodahl graduated in 1980 from the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Dr. Lodahl has worked with small animal and mixed/large animal practices in Upstate New York, Idaho, Alaska, and Colorado. Some of her more unusual experiences included working on Iditarod sled dog teams in Alaska, consulting on alternative therapies for horses in Ireland, and speaking on her experience with alternative therapies at international conferences. Kindness Animal Hospital opened on January 1st, 2007, and is now a small animal only practice, working with dogs and cats.

I am a physician. In my line of work, medical systems have adopted names such as "Honor Health" and "Dignity Health". Sadly, these medical systems rarely live up to their monikers. Fortunately, that is not the case with Kindness Animal Hospital. I have been more than happy with the care that my dog has received there. The staff treated my shy dog with the utmost kindness/compassion and I truly feel that this made a scary situation for her much less so. Dr. Lodahl is kind, experienced and clearly competent. I was pleased with the approach that she took, not wanting to immediately order every diagnostic test available. I felt completely comfortable trusting the care of my cherished pet to Dr. Lodahl and her team. A++

We had a great experience at Kindness Animal Hospital, we had to take our dog in while were visiting family over thanksgiving. We had called 3 different animal hospitals for on call services in the areas and no on answered or called by expect Kindness. My dog had been having GI issues for 3 months and our vet back home was taking a conservative approach to treating the issues. Unfortunately the issues escalated during thanksgiving week and since we weren't going to be home for a week, we called Kindness and they were able to get us in during after hours. They understand that the conservative treatments weren't working and recommended some stronger medicines. Our dog was feeling better same day and symptoms have not come back since.

Dr. Lodahl has been taking care of my cats for over 10 years. From late-night services to vaccinations, teeth cleaning and extractions, eye removal, and wound care just to name a few procedures Dr Lodahl has provided my cats. Rocco just had a life-saving urinary surgery requiring 24 hour care. Dr. Lodahl contacted me every day of his stay to keep me updated. I highly recommend Dr. Lodahl and her friendly, helpful, staff for your pet's health-care.

Dr. Claire Lodahl was very kind to respond to an 8pm phone call and meet us at her office on a Thursday evening regarding our kitten who was in renal failure following a routine spay surgery at another Durango Veterinary office, who shockingly recommended we euthanize our cat! Dr. Lodahl and her staff saved our kitten and she is at home thriving because of Dr. Lodahl's medical expertise. We can't thank Kindness Animal Hospital for everything they did for our kitten! We were 325 miles from home. Our Griffon ran (nose to the ground and mouth open) into a bunch of cactus. He had spines everywhere, including spines in his tongue. This doctor was extremely compassionate and helpful. We called three times for advice, even interrupting her dinner. Because his injury may have required sedation and surgery, we ended up driving home to get to our vet. I tried to get her to bill me for the help and time but she refused. We are very grateful!
